DESCRIPTION:Adults and teens ages 13 &amp\; up are invited to the Cuba Libr
 ary on Thursday\, August 7 at 6:30 pm to experience firsthand the artistic
  tradition that has captivated Eastern cultures for nearly two millennia. 
 Since paper's invention around 100 C.E.\, calligraphy has held a position 
 of extraordinary reverence in Chinese and Japanese cultures—often surpas
 sing painting and portraiture as the most esteemed art form. More than mer
 e writing\, calligraphy has been treasured as a profound medium of creativ
 e expression\, revealing the artist's innermost personality\, spirit\, and
  originality through each brushstroke. Participants will have the opportun
 ity to try their hand at this ancient art form by creating a lucky Chinese
  character. Follow the classical forms or express your unique spirit by ad
 apting the traditional styles with your own creative interpretation.\n\nAl
 l materials provided. No previous experience necessary. Ink comes from Pin
 e Soot\, Animal Glue\, and Fish Skins. May leave stains on clothing.\n\nTh

 ted by Christopher Dalton\, Senior Lecturer in History (M.A.\, A.B.D. Chin
 ese History) who has lived and worked extensively throughout China and is 
 fluent in Mandarin. He studied calligraphy in Kunming\, China at Yunnan No
 rmal University.
