Join our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge!

Families are invited to join the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Cuba Circulating Library. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children. By reading just one book a night, families can reach the 1,000-book goal in three years and provide their children essential early literacy skills.

The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is available to all families with children between the ages of birth and five years. Registration is open via ReadSquared at or on the Readsquared app. If your family already has a ReadSquared account from summer reading, please use the same account and just enroll in the new program. If you cannot remember your password, contact us for help. Earn digital badges as you go and unlock mini games to play! Families who have already signed up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten may also join the online tracking. To get credit for books read previously, please contact us and we will add them for you in bulk. For more information, call the library at 585.968.1668 or visit our website, under our youth services section.

Research shows that the most reliable predictor of school success is being read to during early childhood. Reading to children from an early age can help close the vocabulary gap and prepare children to enter kindergarten with the skills they need to succeed. Most importantly, sharing books with children promotes a lifelong love of books and reading.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Cuba Library. It is free of charge. Upon completion of the 1000 Book Challenge, children will receive a special gift.
