Join us on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m., for a presentation by Dr. Miaoli Zhang, that will focus on three generations of women in China, beginning with life prior to the establishment of new China in 1949 and continuing to the present day. It will discuss the practices of foot-binding, marriage, education, as well as work experiences during those times.
Miaoli Zhang worked for twenty-five years in the Department of Anatomy at a major medical university in China. She did electron and optical microscopy, winning the Fuji Prize at the 5th Japanese Medical Association’s Annual Medical Photo Show in Tokyo. For ten years afterward she worked for Olympus of China, training doctors and professors in microscopic photography before moving to the U.S., where she briefly taught Chinese and Chinese culture, part-time at Jamestown Community College.
