MOBILE HOTSPOTS

We have mobile hotspots available for patrons to borrow! In order to borrow a hotspot, you must be 18 or older with an STLS library card in good standing and a current government issued photo ID. Patrons will be asked to read and sign our hotspot circulation policy, which you can read here: https://bit.ly/2GtEMGp They will have a lending period of 7 days, and patrons will be able to place holds on them. Hotspots are not renewable and patrons must wait 48 hours after returning a hotspot before they may borrow one again. Hotspots rely on cell tower technology and coverage; we have some that use Sprint/T-Mobile service and some that use Verizon service. POCKETALKER ULTRA PERSONAL AMPLIFIER

If you have a meeting to attend but often have a hard time hearing, stop by the Cuba Library to check out a PockeTalker. The Cuba Circulating Library has four of these hearing assistance devices available for community members to borrow. Each kit comes with a PockeTalker Ultra, a pair of headphones and earbuds. A 12ft extension cable for the microphone is also included in each kit. The PockeTalker is a small device which amplifies sounds closest to the listener while reducing background noise. These devices can be used for one-on-one conversations, small groups, and listening to TV. The devices can be used at the library during meetings or programs. They are also available for you to borrow for one-week intervals. This is a free service, provided by a 2021 Outreach mini-grant from Southern Tier Library Systems.

EMPIRE PASSES

The Cuba Library has two Empire Parks Passes available for patrons to borrow. Passes may be borrowed for 1 week with no renewals. Cuba patrons may place holds on the passes, but they must be picked up at Cuba Library. The Empire Pass provides unlimited day-use vehicle entry to most facilities operated by New York State Parks and the State Dept. of Environmental Conservation including forests, beaches, trails and more. Instead of paying the vehicle use fee, simply present the pass and it waives the fee for day use entry. The Empire Pass does not guarantee parking when parks are at maximum capacity, or when special events occur. Passes do not include a waiver of camping, golf, museum, or historic site admission or other special activity fees. Passes do not cover public or private buses, shuttles, taxis, limousines, or other livery vehicles.

BUFFALO ZOO PASSES

The library has two free youth passes for the Buffalo Zoo generously donated by the zoo. These passes are good for free youth (ages 2-12) admission with a paid adult admission and covers a maximum of two adults with two children. Ages 13 and up are considered adults by the zoo for the purposes of admission. The current admission fee for adults is 17.95, and seniors 65+ are 15.95. Children under 2 are free.

These passes can be checked out for 1 week with no renewals.

FISHING POLES

Use your library card to borrow a fishing rod! Extra hooks and bobbers are provided with each rod. Never been fishing? No problem! Instructions on casting a fishing rod are included. Poles may be loaned out for two weeks, but there are no renewals. Cuba patrons may place holds on the fishing rods, but they must be picked up at Cuba Library. Everyone over the age of 16 must possess a valid NYS Freshwater Fishing License. (Sold at most sporting goods stores, town/county clerks, DEC offices, over the phone 1-866-933-2257 or online by visiting www.dec.ny.gov.. Locally you can purchase them at the Town of Cuba office, as well as Clarksville and New Hudson; at Whitetail LLC, Blue Collar Workwear, and Wal-Mart in Olean; at the DEC office in Allegany; at Belmont Archery and Amity Firearms.) The library Does NOT have fishing licenses available for purchase. The library also has additional resources available to borrow on the subject of fishing, and many additional books are available from other libraries throughout the system. These poles are provided in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

SNOWSHOES

The library has four pairs of snowshoes available for patrons to borrow. The library has two pairs of adult-sized snowshoes, and two pairs of children’s sized snowshoes. Each kit comes with snowshoes, poles, and a carrying bag. These snowshoes are available for check out for two weeks at a time, but there are no renewals. Cuba patrons may place holds on the shoes, but they must be picked up at Cuba Library. The purchase of the shoes was supported by outreach funds awarded by the Southern Tier Library System’s Coordinated Outreach Services Advisory Council.

YOGA KITS

The library has three yoga kits available for patrons to check out. These kits include a canvas carrying tote with a yoga mat carrier, two 4 inch foam blocks, an 8 foot cotton strap with D-rings for adjustment, and a 1/8″ thick yoga mat. As with all of our kits, patrons may borrow ONE kit at a time, and have ONE WEEK to use the kit. Kits are kept in the library office and patrons may request them from library staff. There are no fees for overdue kits, however, for kits that are one week late, the full cost of the kit will be billed to the patron’s account until the item is returned. Cuba Library patrons can also place holds on the kits for pick-up. This project is supported by outreach funds awarded by the Southern Tier Library System’s Coordinated Outreach Services Advisory Council.

Foxwell NT301 OBD2 Diagnostic Code Reader

Cuba Library has a Foxwell NT301 OBD2 Diagnostic Code Reader for Check Engine Light available for checkout. The code reader can be checked out for 1 week with no renewals.
Please note that Cuba Library is not responsible for the accuracy of diagnostic results. Additionally, this scanner is meant to work with many makes and models of vehicles but we do not guarantee compatibility.

ARTS & CRAFTS TOOLS

The library has a few arts & crafts tools available for patrons to borrow. At this time we have hardboard artist drawing boards (23.5″ x 26″), wooden weaving boards/looms for doing small woven projects, dotting tools for doing mandala painting, nail art and more, and 6 pairs of round nose jewelry pliers. If you have any suggestions for craft tools that the library should consider for the collection, please let a staff member know, or send us an email.

SCREEN PRINTING KIT

The library has a screen printing kit available for patrons to borrow as well. The kit includes a book, Screen Printing at Home, detailed instructions on basic screen printing, paint, wooden and plastic squeegees, silicone spatulas, 2 screens, contact paper for making stencils, sharpies, craft knives, masking tape, and 2 canvas bags to print on, all in a zippered canvas tote bag. The kit may be borrowed for one week at a time with no renewals, and all kits are limited to one kit per family.

SILHOUETTE CAMEO 4

The Silhouette Cameo is an electronic cutting and drawing machine. Using a connected computer, it uses a small blade to cut a design you created on the computer out of some material sent into the machine. It cuts paper, cardstock, vinyl, and fabric. This machine is available for use in the library. Patrons must reserve a time to use the machine and provide their own materials for cutting. The Library is not responsible for failed projects. We reserve the right to halt, delete, or disallow the creation of items that violate Cuba Circulating Library policies. SEED LIBRARY

We have over 70 varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers available to be checked out, planted, and harvested. The seeds you borrow from our library are yours to take at no cost. These seeds are donated by organizations or seed savers. We hope you learn much, experience the joys of gardening, and enjoy the fruits of your labor. At harvest time, please take some steps to save seeds for others. We ask that a portion of your seeds from the strongest, tastiest, and most vigorous plants be returned to the Seed Library to keep the library self-sustaining.

PODCASTING KIT

Looking to start a podcast, but you aren’t able to buy the equipment? The Cuba Library has a podcasting kit that you can check out! The kit includes a Logitech For Creators Blue Microphone Yeti Premium Multi-pattern USB Microphone, Sony Sound Monitor Headphones (model MDR-7506),  a Professional Pop filter microphone pop screen for broadcasting and recording, all in an Eylar hard case with foam, as well as a MouKey MPFBK3 Recording screen with 3 foldable panels in mesh carrying bag attached to the hard case. The kit can be checked out for one week, and as with our STEAM kits, there are no fees if it is overdue, however, if it is one week late, the full cost of the kit will be billed to the patron’s account until it is returned.

SOCIAL MEDIA/VLOGGING KIT

If you’ve been thinking about making a video but you don’t have some of the equipment, the Cuba Library has a social media/vlogging kit that you can check out! The kit includes a Joby Gorillapod Kit with a tripod, two arm attachments, which comes with a GoPro mount, a cell phone mount, and a mount for cameras, a microphone with a windscreen cover, and an LED light. The tripod has multi-socket legs that can be bent into various positions, and a strap for carrying or for mounting the tripod on a pole or tree. This kit does not come with video equipment, but can be used with a cell phone or your own camera. The kit can be checked out for one week, and as with our STEAM kits, there are no fees if it is overdue, however, if it is one week late, the full cost of the kit will be billed to the patron’s account until it is returned.

STEAM & PHONICS KITS

The STEAM kits were purchased through a generous donation by Marilee Patterer and the Friends of the Cuba Library, Inc., and through funding from the Kaleigh Wilday Memorial Foundation. The STEAM kits cover topics such as dinosaurs, magnets, building and design, construction, decimals and rounding, art facts, electronics & coding, science, nature, machines, the human body, and trucks and tools. The Phonics kits were purchased through a grant funded by Allegany County United Way, and feature favorite characters like Lego Star Wars, Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol, Pete the Cat, and a generic Letters and Numbers kit. Each comes in a zippered tote for easy carrying. Families may borrow ONE kit at a time, and have ONE WEEK to explore the activities in the kit. All kits are kept in the library office and patrons may request them from library staff. There are no fees for overdue kits, however, for kits that are one week late, the full cost of the kit will be billed to the patron’s account until the item is returned.

All About Dinosaurs
Interest Grade PK – 3| Explore what would happen if you looked in the mirror and saw that you had become part dino! Enjoy imaginative play with dinosaur figures and reusable sticker scenes. Dinosaur Escape allows kids to work together, use their memory, and incorporate simple strategy to rescue the dinos from volcanic eruption. Includes What If You Had T.Rex Teeth!? book, dinosaur escape game, jumbo dinosaurs, and a dinosaur reusable sticker tote.

All About Magnets
Interest Grade: PK – 3 | Kids will be pulled toward this Steam kit with it’s hands-on introduction to the fascinating powers of magnets. STEAM lessons are irresistible when you add the excitement of fun, colorful tools to scientific exploration. Includes Magnets Push, Magnets Pull book, STEM Explorers magnet mover set, and STEAM magnet activity set. Both magnet sets include activity guides.

Building and Design
Interest Grade: 4+ | Dive into a behind-the-bricks look at the beloved LEGO toy with this hands-on STEAM kit. Kids can take what they learned in the world of LEGO engineering and apply it to the KEVA Brain Builders and City Engineer sets which give you the tools to design and build creations to solve challenges. Construction and Building
Interest Grade: PK – 3 | It’s never too early to introduce engineering. Little engineers will gain experience with construction while they are still learning basic life skills. Interest Grade: PK – 3 | Kids use a cash register and play money to learn about currency and making change. Base ten cubes reinforce counting, measuring, and working with patterns. Cash Kat learns the value of money on a fun adventure with grandma. Includes the book Cash Kat, base ten cubes, a wallet with play money and cards, and a solar powered cash register.

DIYs and Art Facts
Interest Grade: 4+| Get hands-on with 15 DIY craft projects created by YouTube sensation Karina Garcia. Boys and girls of all ages will be able to express their artistic side and create their own masterpiece using the multi-craft weaving loom. And put your art knowledge to the test with this fun and memory-boosting game which features essential art topics. Includes Karina Garcia’s Must-Try DIYs book, BrainBox STEAM art game, and Multi-craft Weaving Loom with design booklet.

Electronics, Coding & Bots
Interest Grade: 4+ | Science Comics gives us a high-interest graphic novel packed with facts on robots and drones: past, present and future. My Amazing Body
Interest Grade: 4+ | From your head to your toes, the My Amazing Body kit is an introduction to anatomy and explains the important parts of your body. The hands-on manipulatives for the heart, brain and skeleton will provide children an in-depth look into the human body and create an appreciation for everything their bodies can do. Trucks and Tools Kit
Interest Grades: PK-3 | The Trucks and Tools kit is designed for the young gearhead. CODING & ROBOT KITS:

OSMO : Genius Starter Kit

Power up family game night with Osmo Genius Starter Kit+. Kids will love exploring STEAM topics on their own or with their family. Coding (Awbie)
String together commands to guide Awbie on an epic strawbie-munching adventure. Explore 35+ levels including green forests, spooky caves, jungles, sunny beaches, a snowy mountain, and even a volcano! Build problem-solving and logic skills while learning the basic concepts of coding!

Coding Jam
Arrange coding blocks in patterns and loops to compose your own music. Comes with 24 characters and over 300 musical sounds to produce your perfect song. Kids can safely record and share their music with friends, family and the Jam community.

Sphero Bolt

Programming made easy. Simple for beginners yet sophisticated enough for experts, Lightning Lab empowers anyone to program their robot. The visual block based programming app makes the basic principles of coding approachable and fun. The Kit includes a Sphero SPRK+, 1 power adapter, 1 charging base, 2 covers, 1 roll of ruled tape, and a quick start guide in a zippered case.

BOARD GAMES

The library has an ever-growing collection of board games for the whole family to enjoy. Whether you are looking for something for a family game night, or you want to have a get together with friends, we may have the perfect game for your group to enjoy. Games have a 1 week borrowing period and may be renewed once. You may borrow a maximum of 2 games at a time.

VIDEO GAMES

The Cuba Library has a variety of video games for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, WiiU, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. These games may be borrowed by anyone with a library card in good standing (no lost items, under $5 in fines). The loan period for these games is 1 week, with a limit of 3 games per person. Our games can be found in the Young Adult Section on the shelves under the office window, except for those labeled M for Mature (noted with a -M), which are located in the Adult Section on the shelf next to the Hallmark DVDs. The library also has a TV in the teen area with a Nintendo Switch, a WiiU, and an XBox One with a limited number of games pre-installed for in-house use. Patrons must check out the video games that they wish to play on our in-house systems.

LAPTOPS & IPADS FOR IN-HOUSE USE ONLY

The Cuba Library has 3 laptops and 1 iPad available for in-house use.  If you have a meeting that requires a computer with a camera, or all of the computers in the lab are in use, you can temporarily check out a laptop for in-library use. There is also an iPad that can be borrowed for short periods to use in the library.

CHARGERS & CABLES FOR IN-HOUSE USE ONLY

The Cuba Library has a variety of chargers and small electronic items available for in-house use.  If you find yourself in need of a charger or cable, you can temporarily check out an Apple or Android (micro-usb) charger, a USB-C charger, USB to USB-C cable, headphone jack splitter, or even Headphones or an SD Card Reader.

AND if you need a cake pan for a special occasion, we have a good selection of Wilton pans to pick from, including these shapes: Baking tools (measuring cups & spoons), butterfly, cake pop pan, Carebear, checkerboard cake set, Cookie Monster, fire truck, flower, football helmet, Hello Kitty, 4 jack o’lanterns, 4 mounds, 2 muffin tins, 9″ Springform, Pie Plate, Purse, Scooby-Doo & Mystery Machine Van, Super Mario, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, 3 Tier set, Tigger, tractor.  Pans may be checked out for 7 days.
