Costume Creation Tips

Make-up, prosthetics, props, and masks, oh my! These can raise costuming to elicit the response you are looking for. Teens & adults (ages 13 & up) are invited to come to the Cuba Library on Thursday, October 9 from 6 – 8 pm to play, build and experiment to create the look you want without the expense of purchasing a generic costume. From armor constructed using painted decorative foam attached to shoulder pads to fabric that gives the illusion of chain mail, costumes can be constructed using a variety of materials around your home. A shield can be constructed with cardboard, a packing foam sheet, pipe insulation, webbing (for the grips) and duct tape. Daggers and swords can be made out of pool noodles, PVC pipe duct tape and foam, sword hangers from cardboard, leather or facsimile. Another costume required only decorative touches to clothing hanging in the closet. It was a big hit with the cast of One Piece. Bring materials you wish to work with, or use what we have available. Space is limited and registration is required so please contact Cuba Library at (585)968-1668 or email cuba@stls.org to sign up.
