Penny Pinchers’ Party

Join Miss Cherilyn on Monday, March 31 at 6:30 pm at the Cuba Library for a Family Financial Literacy Game. Participants in family teams will be in charge of planning a themed party. Kids become party planners, creating Planning Boards for their clients while staying on budget. With a budget of $100, the players take turns selecting items from a party warehouse managed by the program facilitator. After five turns, players share their plans with the group and explain their choices. This game helps children understand what a budget is and how it is useful, understand basic business relationships, and understand that value can differ from cost (i.e., that fun does not necessarily mean expensive, or vice versa). This game is geared toward children ages 5-12 but since each family will be a team, all ages are welcome. The materials for this program were provided by a grant from ALA and FINRA.
